Rob Wilco: He lives with, supports, and is frustrated by Bucky and Satchel. He graduated from Lowe Tech and works in a Boston advertisement agency. Rob is a vegetarian, due to what he feels are too cruel methods of killing the animals, meat will, however, find its way into his food, especially if it's Bucky or Sathcel's time to cook the meal.
He's a big rugby union fan. Rob is also Boston Red Sox fanatic. From the t-shirts, hats, posters, and books variously seen in the strip, it can be assumed that Rob likes the New Zealand rugby union team, Irish Rugby Team, Quebec Nordiques; also, MXC, science fiction, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the music of Leo Kottke, Green Day, Ween and Sprouts (a reference to Darby Conley's brother's band). Rob is often shown reading, usually while in bed. He seems to particularly like the Harry Potter series, as does Satchel.
Bucky will often call Rob "Pinky," referring to Rob's shameful lack of fur and skin color. At other times he calls him "Robert," "Robbo," and "Wilco," rarely using his preferred title, "Rob."
Satchel Pooch: A very kind hearted, naive dog. He is half Yellow Labrador Retriever and half Shar Pei; his ancestors were Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retrievers. Satchel's parents live in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. His father, a Yellow Lab, is a retired rescue dog. Satchel is named after Satchel Paige.
Satchel wears a nice little watch, "Handy"; which, Bucky repaired once, even though Satchel can not tell time. Satchel then got a digital watch for Christmas that he named "Dingy" (then called "Beepy").
Satchel has some dog friends in the outside world unlike the cat that has even stranger cat acquaintances. He is usually being mistreated by Bucky at home or going to his playgroup. Not always seeing through Bucky's schemes he does display a resigned frustration from time to time towards Bucky and his hostilities, getting violent only once and that was a reaction to Bucky's attitude with his friends.
Satchel likes to take a neutral position in the ongoing sports feud between professed Yankers fan Bucky and rabid Red Sox fan Rob. (Satchel says he likes the Cubs.) He is also a Harry Potter enthusiast, proudly displaying a Hufflepuff poster in his room, and is, rather naturally, a supporter of animal rights. He sported a PETA cap on a trip to Maine.
Bucky Katt: The evil Siamese cat. Bucky lives in a dresser located in the hall closet of Rob Wilco's apartment. Bucky Katt seems to be what many people see when they think of cat. Selfish, cynical, and demanding, he gets on Rob's nerves a lot. He's always in a hostile mood, which is why his ears are drawn down; he delights in random destruction and violence.
Very little has been revealed about Bucky's birth and early life. Rob once mentioned that he found Bucky huddled on a trash can when only a few weeks old in Hackensack, New Jersey, and while Bucky's father has never been mentioned, Bucky gave his mother's maiden name on a credit card application as "Tricky Woo". Sports fanatic Rob has mentioned, that he named him after legendary baseball player Buck O'Neil.
Bucky carries around a stuffed bear named "Smacky", though in one strip he recieved two more "Cracker" and "Punk". At the start of the strip, Bucky also had a fondness for "Ms. Pretty", a doll Bucky carried around in a backpack. He has also indicated a fair amount of stress when Rob washed his blanket, and when Rob threw out his dead piscine friend, Smell E. Fish.
He's a fan of the "Yankers" (Yankees), taunting Rob when the Red Sox play poorly, but he knows almost nothing about baseball. Another example is Bucky's affinity for the Slytherin house from the Harry Potter books even though he isn't too into Harry Potter, a Slytherin House poster is on the inside of his bedcloset door. He has tried to eat monkey and fights with Mr.Fungo Squiggly, the ferret neighbor. He hunts wild tofu and tackled "gangsta yarn". What's Bucky scared of? Chubby Huggs, the happy cat who loves to love and hug you.
Joe Doman: He's Rob's best friend and co-worker in the advertising business.He visits Rob, Satchel, and Bucky, and is one of the very few who are willing to pet-watch for Rob! He gets along well with Satchel, well who wouldn't really?, and well enough with Bucky and his cat-itude.
I believe it's because he doesn't live there that he gets less frazzled by them. Even when Bucky bit him, he admitted to a stange fascination with Bucky. Joe seems like one of the few people Bucky may like, even with the bites an attitude.BACK TO TOP
